Case-packing robots are core equipment in end-of-line packaging automation. They consist of an industrial robotic arm, a vision system, an end-effector, a conveyor line, and a control system. These robots automatically pick up and arrange products from the production line, pack them into cardboard boxes or reusable containers, and replace manual labor in repetitive case-packing tasks. They can be integrated with box-opening, box-sealing, and palletizing equipment to form a complete packaging production line.

 

I. Main Components


Robot Chassis

Six-axis articulated robot: Highly versatile, capable of handling products of all sizes—large, medium, and small—and the most widely used

Delta parallel robot: High-speed, light-load design, suitable for rapid packing of food and small items

Collaborative robot: Requires no safety fencing; enables human-robot collaboration; suitable for flexible production lines with small to medium batch sizes

End-effectors (Grippers)

Vacuum Suction Cups: For paper boxes, packaging bags, and flat boxes; prevents product damage

Mechanical Grippers: For bottles, rigid boxes, and heavier workpieces

Flexible Soft Grippers: For easily deformable or fragile products; prevents pinching injuries

Vision System

2D/3D vision identifies product position and orientation; capable of grasping products even when randomly placed; supports mixed-size production lines.

Control System

PLC + robot controller; capable of storing multiple packing schemes; switching between products requires only a program call; integrates with the production line’s MES system.


II. Workflow


Sensing → Gripping → Arranging into Boxes → Output

The conveyor belt transports products and empty cartons to the packing station; the vision system detects product positions and empty spaces in the cartons;

The robotic arm drives the gripper to pick up the products;

Products are neatly placed into the carton according to preset arrangement rules, with controlled placement force to prevent crushing or bumping;

Once packing is complete, the carton is discharged and proceeds to the sealing process; it can be linked with a downstream palletizing robot.
